Yummy, chewy ice pellets
I'm thrilled with this ice maker! It makes the ice i like to chomp on without the worry of breaking a tooth. It keeps on making ice as long as it has water enough to make ice. It does take up a bit of counter space but it's worth it. It's heavy to lift out of its carton and to move on the counter... so make sure you have room beside a sink (for cleaning). I give it 5 Stars because I do love it.

You'll regret this decision. Stay Away!
I bought the other ice maker that's popular on here and returned it due to the suctioning issue. Read the reviews and was told to get this one.Purchased this model and in less than 6 months later I'm dealing with the Add Water when it's filled error message. Followed the instructions below (added them cause you'll need them) and it work a couple of times. Now it's not sucking up water. Called their service dept. They do not send anyone to your home to fix it. You have two options..1) Allow them to hold $300 on your credit card and they will send your a refurbished unit. Once you send it back, they will take the hold off. 2) Dont allow them to hold $300 and wait for them to send you shipping details with a label and a box, put your defective unit it, then they will send you a refurbished one. Here's the kicker...You only get a 90 day warranty on it. If it breaks again and it's outside of the 90 days, they will replace it with a refurbished one as long as it's within your 1 yr warranty of the original purchased date of the first defective item! Once I get the refurbished one, I'm selling it!Here's the instructions from GE when your ice maker isn't making ice and says Add Water:1. Detach the side tank if your Opal is equipped with one.2. Please start the Opal and switch to cleaning mode.3. Remove the screen/filter at the bottom corner of the reservoir, exposing the small white rubber inlet used for water circulation.4. Disconnect the Opal from the phone app if applicable.5. Fill the water well to the upper fill line with distilled water.6. Remove the ice bin and press the button to see if the Opal pumps water. This could take up to 5 minutes to start.7. Plug the small inlet with your finger for 10-15 seconds to create a vacuum within the pump/circulation system.8. Release the plug and wait a minute or until you see water movement.9. If you do not see a change, repeat these steps twice.10. If you see water movement, please switch to ice mode, and run for 30 minutes.11. Is water flowing down the back of the trough or there is no water movement at all?12. If not, contact us

Ice When You Need It
This is one of the best on the market. I bought this because my son loved the ice it made. Too long of a story to include here, just know that his last hours on this earth included chewing on the perfect ice pellets made by this machine. I found that insulating the ice bucket caused the ice to last a bit longer. Although this machine recycles the melted ice water into new pellets, adding a small layer of rubber/foam insulation helps in keeping the ice box colder, and helps prevents the ice from melting too fast. I used 1 inch, 1/16 inch single sided adhesive rubber in a double layer on both sides and bottom of the ice box. This is the second machine I have bought. The first one lasted 20 months, using distilled water, about a gallon a day, and never ran it thru a cleaning cycle. I do not recommend that practice.I bought the extended warranty for this new one, and have a new filter shipped from Amazon every month, which aligns with the programmed cleaning cycle. It’s very easy to use, and the side water tank is so handy, as it holds about a gallon of water. Our tap water is very hard, which is why we chose distilled water to use is our machine. You’ll find that slime and algae will build up, plugging the filter, and interfering with the ice making auger in the ice cup. Keep it clean by flushing and sanitizing with bleach, and changing the filter after each cleaning. I’ll post an update on how long this one lasts. As far as I can tell, this one is the best counter top I’ve maker on the market today. Its size is perfect for our countertop, and you have to walk in the kitchen to hear it making its perfect ice. The noise level is not a problem with this one. I highly recommend this ice maker, with the side tank for your iced drink needs. You’re gonna love it.

Need to baby them or they won’t last
This is my second Opal machine. I love them until I hate them. They work great for a while and then they are going to start squealing and making noise. IF I get a third it will be with the understanding that I will need to weekly descale and sanitize the stupid thing. Which are pains in the butt. I love squishy ice but I haven’t decided if it is worth it
