Q: I used the bit they provided to drill a hole, but it's coming out too big, the rod is loose in it. What to do? use a smaller bit?

The hole I drilled was fine. One thing I have done is place a cork in the hole when not in use as my foundation stump is left outsie. Would use smaller drill if hole is too large.

Not sure but you may be able to get something like it at a hardware store such as lowes or home depot

I find that green wood often splits more easily.
