Xinhua Dictionary (Chinese Edition) Hardcover – June 1, 2015

I just bought this Chinese Dictionary is really helpful, I am impressed. Compared when I was 8 years young , ( 40 years ago ) the Chinese Dictionary wasn't that organized ....but the printing is smaller than I expected, just like the other reviews said, sometimes you need magnifier to see it clear... only if the printing is 50 percent bigger, then will be the best you get...

Great book for keeping up with your written Chinese!

So far this dictionary has been the greatest thing I could have gotten for my studies. Looking orward to using it till I die probably.

As for content, it is a good dictionary.

Normally I use reading glasses rated +2.25. But even with those it is pretty hard to make out the printing. The book is very well printed but it is a bit like that micro edition of the OED: you need a magnifier of some sort. This is quite readable with +3.5 glasses. It has some interesting features: a discussion of the graph and its history and root vs extended meanings (not exactly etymology but similar), examples of various types of of orthography (running script, cursive, modern standard, seal script), a story or citation involving the character. This thing is an inexpensive, nice reference well worth having and the print is crisp and clear *if* you have a magnifier of some sort. There is a larger format 'color edition' which I will look out for next time I am in the bay area.

I bought this for my son but I ended up reading it.

The book is very comprehensive, fit the need for my son to learn chinese.
