They definitely do have a rubber smell to them, I wouldn't say it is a chemical smell. Just smells like brand new rubber. It'll go away with time I'm sure. Unfortunately for me, I needed them to run a water hose across a parking lot. They do lock together, the channels are deep and wide. This product doesn't work well for car traffic. When cars go over them it causes them to shift because there is nothing to grip the road. And this shifting causes them to come unconnected. They move too easily. They are otherwise very sturdy. I'd only get these if you are going to use them inside, not for car traffic.

I got this because I had quite a bunch of cables to run across a doorway. Several HDMI and 20 Amp power lines. Looks like it will handle the job good... However it smells like the inside of a diesel engine. Some of the strongest chemical smell I have ever experienced. I have it outside hoping the smell will disappear over time; that being said even outside you can smell it strongly from ten to fifteen feet away. No way I want to breathe this in an enclosed space, even a garage would be scary. And since I have an 8 year old in the house no way I want them exposed to whatever toxic soup this is made from. If the smell doesn't go away before a month you can bet I'll be returning this. I can only imagine you could use it somewhere like a truck stop when the fuel smells would likely overpower or at least be the same as whatever this is emitting.If the smell dissipates and improves and I end up keeping it I'll update my rating accordingly.

They are great for protection, but come apart easily and then they do not protect the cord.

Absolutely brutal chemical smell. Received multiple complaints from colleagues and customers. Boxes were beat up from shipping so returning them was an absolutely hassle. I can’t stress enough how bad the smell is.

Got this for running larger lines through and seems really sturdy, however the toxic smell coming from it forced me to put it outside to air out. Been outside for a few weeks and still has some odor. Would only recommend for large open environments not inside smaller areas. If not for fumes would be 5 stars.
