Can you actually boil water in this pot?

Yes, you can. However, as cute as this teapot is, it is not very practical for everyday use. It is small. When it boils, you have to use a pot holder for the handle and another pot holder for the lid, which will fall off as soon as you start to pour.

Does anyone use this exclusively in the microwave at their work office to make coffee? If so, what is your experience? Is it hard to maintain?

Use this every morning to make tea in the microwave. Not hard to maintain I just rinse it out after use. Nice teapot.

Does the handle get hot?

No - and I frequently boil water in it.
