Good bulk storage drive, not built for speed
Why I ordered this item: My old drive was getting full and I needed more room for game installs and video files. 8TB for the price seemed like a good amount of space. Likes: * This thing is zippy for a spinning drive. I moved a folder of video files over and it kept a steady clip the whole time. * Install was easy. Just SATA power and data, nothing screwy about it. * It's quiet. I've got it mounted a couple feet from my desk and I don't hear it spin up. * 8TB is a lot of room. I loaded up a bunch of games and barely made a dent. No likes: * It ships in just an anti static bag. No screws, no cables, no enclosure. If your case doesn't have a tray for this you'll need to source your own hardware. * It's a mechanical drive so it's not going to feel speedy like an SSD. Dont expect quick boot times if you put your OS on this. * Mine runs a little warm under heavy transfers. Nothing alarming but I'd keep an eye on airflow in your case. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes Final thoughts: This is a good bulk storage drive for games, media, or backups. It's not built for speed so keep your OS and programs on something else.

Purchase was great but Service was BETTER!
After purchasing 4 8TB drives for a NAS device, I received exactly what I ordered and it was delivered earlier than expected. Unfortunately, 1 of the drives has a critical failure shortly after starting to copy files over. This is where Scott at ALL4COMPUTERS really shines. PLEASE follow the paperwork instructions inside the box!!! I called Scott directly and explained the issue and he was very helpful. In addition, Scott is friendly and passionate about his customers being satisfied. We took care of the issue within minutes and a new drive was in the mail that day. It arrived 3 business days later, a day earlier than expected. All in all I am extremely happy with this purchase and I look forward to buying from ALL4COMPUTERS again. Scott, if you see this... Thank You, You Rock!!!

Perfect for combining multiple hard drives of data.
The Seagate ST8000DM008 BarraCuda 8TB is a standard 3.5-inch internal hard drive designed for mass storage needs in desktop computers. In this unbiased review, we will assess its various aspects to provide a comprehensive overview. **Storage Capacity (4/5):** With a whopping 8TB of storage space, the BarraCuda offers an abundance of room to store your files, games, and media. It's an excellent choice for users who require extensive storage for large media libraries, backups, or extensive data. **Performance (3/5):** The BarraCuda 8TB is primarily designed for storage purposes, so it's not as fast as SSDs or high-performance hard drives. It operates at 5400 RPM, which is a bit slower compared to 7200 RPM drives. While it provides decent performance for sequential data transfers, it may not be the best choice for tasks that demand quick access times or frequent data retrieval. **Reliability (4/5):** Seagate, as a well-established manufacturer, has a history of producing reliable storage devices. The BarraCuda series is known for its durability and dependability. However, like all mechanical hard drives, it is subject to wear and tear over time, and there is always a risk of failure. It's advisable to have proper backups in place when using any mechanical drive for important data. **Noise Levels (3.5/5):** The BarraCuda 8TB is relatively quiet during regular operation but can produce some noise, especially when accessing data. This may not be an issue in a desktop setup but could be noticeable in a quiet environment. **Installation (4/5):** Installing the BarraCuda is a straightforward process. It utilizes the standard 3.5-inch form factor, making it compatible with most desktop systems. Users with basic knowledge of PC hardware should have no trouble fitting it into their setup. **Value (3.5/5):** In terms of cost per gigabyte, the BarraCuda 8TB offers a reasonably good value, especially for users who require a large amount of storage space. However, it's important to remember that the price of SSDs has been steadily decreasing, and if you value performance and responsiveness, you might consider investing in a smaller SSD for your primary storage and supplementing it with a secondary HDD like the BarraCuda for mass storage. **Conclusion:** The Seagate ST8000DM008 BarraCuda 8TB is a capacious internal hard drive, well-suited for users with substantial storage needs, such as media enthusiasts, content creators, or those who require extensive backups. It offers reliability, straightforward installation, and decent value in terms of storage capacity. However, it is not the fastest drive on the market, and its performance may not meet the expectations of users who prioritize speed and responsiveness. Consider your specific storage requirements and performance expectations before deciding if the BarraCuda 8TB is the right choice for your computing needs.

Smr drive, but for the price, it's fine.
The 8tb Seagate is an smr drive. This makes it less than ideal as a primary drive, or a drive that will hold files that will change often, or small files. It is a good drive for large backups, like movies or retro videogames. It's good for files that you write once to the disk and just leave them there. The smr technology shingles the data on top of other data, which is why it's bad for data that needs to be changed. The drive needs to physically move the data on top to change the underlying data. If you just need to read the data, like when you watch a movie, it does not need to move the data. So if you have a jellyfin server, this drive is fine. Also, you should NOT use smr drives as parity drives in a nas. If you don't know what that means, you don't need to worry about it. Lastly, because it is and smr drive, it will copy data to the drive much slower than a conventional drive. If you are going to dump a huge amount of data onto it all at once, it's going to slow down once the cache fills up. It absolutely is the right price (for 2026), and it has its uses. But don't expect it to perform as well as a car drive.

Not exactly 8 TB but close, and the drive seems reliable.
I installed this into a 'FIDECO Hard Drive Enclosure for 3.5 or 2.5 inch SATA HDD SSD' adapter and it works nicely. As usual, even though the drive was specified as 8 Terrabyte, the actual usable amount was a little smaller. I have forgotten the actual amount, but it seemed reasonable to me. Manufacturers design for the rated size, but the actual fabrication process is low cost and there are some bad sectors in the magnetic material which the internal controller blocks off so the bad sectors are invisible to the user. This reduction is more apparent for larger hard drives, pretty much regardless of the manufacturer but it is a tradeoff to try to keep the cost of a hard drive lower for the customer.

Disappointing noise and performance while writing data
I have used many HDDs in my life and this one has been one of the worst, not necessarily due to raw performance but with how it has completely failed to meet my expectations on a modern drive and how it sucks compared to any of my other 8TB HDDs. I have HDDs from even the mid 2000s that perform better than this drive when it comes to writing data. It seems that Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) is to blame for this. To put it simply, this drive really sucks at writing data. Spinning idle the drive is pretty quiet but when you try writing data to it goes quick for a while before eventually getting stuck writing under 40MB/s after it fill a cache or something. It's also quite noisy while writing data, more so than other drives which are CMR. The noise sounds like random access while writing sequential data so it's probably a result of it being SMR. While reading data it's pretty quiet though, so it gets a 3/5 for noise. It's pretty quiet when reading, but much louder than normal drives when writing. Avoid this drive if you care about performance. I've also looked into it some and found that SMR drives can kill RAID arrays, if you're going to use this drive you need to use it as a dedicated device and be okay with terrible write speds from nearly two decades ago. For ~10% more than this costs, you can pick up a much better CMR HDD that won't have either of these issues. Don't buy this. I would have liked to keep this drive but I had to return it as the performance was unacceptable. For comparison, I got a similarly priced WD80EAZZ from WD that is CMR and performs fine. If this ST8000DM004 had a 5-Year warranty maybe I'd put up with the slow performance but as it stands it is a poor choice in my opinion and not worth buying compared to other options.

Harika orjinal Seagate box paket içinde geliyor.
Tavsiye ederim....

(used to be) Great value for money - bought two now!
EDIT (27th April 2026): Hol-lee-fook, these prices, insane. $419 AUD now. Double when I bought the first two at $200 and $230. Not worth it at all IMO, unless other similar capacity HDD's are more expensive than this. As for the drives, they're both running great still. Older one is at 5391 Hours (since May 2025), and second newer one is at 3203 Hours (Since December 2025). They run whenever my PC is on, which, is quite a lot lol. EDIT (19TH February 2026): Price has gone up to $265. These were around $200 when I first purchased the first one, and $230 when I purchased the second one. Def grab these sooner than later. I reckon these will soar past $300. And yes, both are still going great. I will come here and continue to update this review, especially if anything bad happens. EDIT (4th December 2025): Just bought a second one a week ago Both are running great. They are not on 24/7 but pretty darn close to it and running fine so far. Using them in external 3.5" SATA to USB Enclosure. Packaging is literally the segate branded cardboard box it ships in, which is quite sturdy and complex, and then a paper amazon bag on the outside, and that's literally it. No Bubble wrap. But! Both times they've arrived unharmed and work fine. Takes about 5-7 days free delivery from the US to Sydney. Will be buying more if the price stays the same. ORIGINAL REVIEW (May 2025): Great value for money. Packaging could have been a bit more thorough but it arrived unharmed and crystal disk info showed no errors, and with no hours used. Please note when you do look into crystal disk info you’ll need to translate the numbers into raw data, so if it says “write errors: 9172672” (example), it’ll come out as “0” on. Just google “segate smart error calculator and should be the first result that comes up. Now I will note: I’ve had it for two months now, and it reeealllly slowed down to a crawl past week or two, doing 10-15 MB/S read / write - and sometimes 100% activity but no read or write. I went into “Defrag and optimise drives” in windows and it was at 76%., which is very high. I ran it for a day and a bit and it got down to 6%, and it runs MUCH smoother at 140/150 MB/S read/write like it was at original date of purchase. So a lot of these other reviewers (apart from physical damage by shipping) are probably not defragmenting their hdd’s properly Also please keep in mind this is a SMR drive not a CMR drive - can’t be bothered explaining here but just google it and you’ll see what I mean. TL;DR - you should treat this drive as a write once read many times which is what i’m treating this drive as.
