First you scan the odd-numbered pages, then you turn the document over and scan the even-numbered pages. Then you can use the Editing Page window to automatically sort the pages¬The following steps are for double-sided scanning in Office Mode¬Place the first page of your document in the ADF. See Loading Documents in the Automatic Document Feeder for instructions¬Start Epson Scan. See Starting Epson Scan for instructions¬Select Office Mode in the Mode list. See Changing the Scan Mode for instructions¬In the Office Mode window, select the Image Type, Size, and Resolution settings. For details, see Scanning in Office Mode¬Select Auto Detect or ADF as the Document Source setting¬Click Preview. The ADF loads your first document page, then Epson Scan prescans it and displays it in the Preview window. The ADF then ejects your first page¬Make any necessary image adjustments. Does this work with Linux? (Obviously the Epson software won't but will the scanner?)

Before you buy, get someone who knows for sure, but if your version of Linux supports USB and you can install generic drivers, I imagine so. However, I don't know if the special functions will work, such as using the sheet fed scanning.

does this scan negative photo?

Sorry I Can not tell you as I have not used this enough because I Hate the Software that it comes with.To me they cobbled together Epson and Paperport. There is a manual online that might tell you.

I'm looking for a scanner that works with the MAC OS Ver 10.9. I tried for days to get the ones I have work with it only to find out that they can't/

Yes, this one works with 10.9, according to the "Drivers and downloads" link here:http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=104830&BVIt says that the current "Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility" is compatible with Mac OS X versions 10.5.8 through 10.9
