Q: Is this long enough to use on a touchscreen laptop computer without pulling to stretch the cord?

We consider that these elastic lanyards is long enough to use with tablet or cell phones, and I think you should have to pull to stretch the cord to cover your whole screen if you want to use on your laptop. But 30-inch length is very long and it won't be hard to pull longer from original 8 inches. Hope this helps.

It won't, the joint part is plastic. The phone can't recognize it

No it doesn’t. Actually works pretty good, however we use them on our forklifts to hold a stylus for the mounted tablets. Hope this helps
