The U.S. has the largest prison system in the world and Lagemann explains why, as well as the barriers a person formerly incarcerated faces. As a country, we want and need those who exit prison to engage positively with society. The high rate of return to prison reflects a broken system. The issues are much larger than the average citizen realizes. And a remedy with proven results is out there. Education is a pathway for everyone everywhere. I really appreciate this book.
