Seems to be well worth the money
Bought this as a gift for a fundraiser, so I was not able to open it or anything, but I really liked the weight, is was a good nice heavy weight, and the blade looked really high quality through the packaging. Probably best I wasnt able to touch the blade since I am the Queen of All Things Klutzy!! Recommended by my sister who does a lot of camping. I got a lot of oooh's and aaah's and "you didnt have to spend so much on it" which is really cool!

Great value!
It is a really good size, not too unwieldly. It is balanced well, it is not flimsy. The fire starting tool is a great plus, this will work much better than any damp matches that have been in the backpack too long.

I found this knife and really liked it. I bought it and opened to see ...
I was surfing through the knife section at a superstore with my parents. I only had twenty bucks to spend so I ignored all of the top quality knives. I found this knife and really liked it. I bought it and opened to see how it was. The only bad thing about this is the sheath. It is really dangerous and doesn't hold the knife in securely at all. Besides that, its a pretty great knife (for the price). The blade is actually really sharp and the semi serrated feature is great. The paracord grip really helps and if you ever need paracord you can use the grip. I personally haven't tested the flint nor the magnesium rod, but I assume that it will be good. UST is a very trustworthy company, in my opinion, and they have achieved making an amazing knife at an extremely affordable price.

The Paraknife FS 4.0 is better than the older Paraknife FS 3.0
The Paraknife FS 3.0 had quality issues. The newer Paraknife FS 4.0 seems to be much better.Found some reviews of this blade online and it is listed as a 8Cr13MoV Stainless which puts the blade about on par or slightly better than 440C stainless. Knife's edge was sharp when it arrived and after playing with the knife for a week i am actually impressed at how sharp it was out of the box.The included Ferro rod is not good. You get a metal rod with a small ferro rod imbedded in a larger rod. The larger rod does not seem to be magnesium nor does it seem to be anything flammable, a butane lighter was not able to get any of the metal shaving's to burn. The ferro rod is so soft that several strikes and its worn almost half way. First thing I did was toss the included firesteel rod and drop in a Light My Fire Swedish Firesteel rod. Tested the new rod several times with no problems throwing lots of sparks with little visible wear. The FS 4.0 knife does come with bright orange paracord which is wrapped too lose, the notches in knife handle intended to retain the paracord would be sufficent if the paracord were wrapped tighter. There seems to be enough extra paracord at end of handle to allow for rewrapping much tighter to prevent slippage. Or use your own paracord and rewrap. There are numerous videos on Youtube showing how to wrap a knife handle with paracord. The sheath is low quality but sufficient. Its not going to win any awards but it gets the job done. The inside of the sheath appears to be lined with a plastic material resembling thin polyurethane or some vinyl material. The knife can be secured in sheath with a velcro closure or a snap closure. I easily removed the velcro flaps and knife closes with snaps quite easily.I give this 4/5 stars. The knife seems to be pretty decent. The included firesteel is bad, replace this with a good ferro rod and your good. If your day hiking the stock rod will be good for a few uses and then its done. Sheath is adequate, it will hold knife for awhile while you shop for a better sheath or make your own. Or just be careful with this one.In my opinion several minutes with a Dremel tool adding jimping to spine finger rest and enlarging choil on bottom so it more comfortably fits my finger and this would be a very good, basic knife.

Know how they work ?
The knife is a good quality and the fire starter is a dual purpose fire starter. My experience after using the knife over a three week period was enough for me to recommend it on a note of good workable quality. The fire starter has a small striker on the front part and the rest of the rod is a softer magnesium that you shave off into a pile and light with the front small edge of the striker. The other reviewers cannot be helped. Firestrikers never come with any instructions regardless of the manufacturer. You just have to develop your own experience of using them, and just plain know how they work. Back tracking to the knife for a few more words. It come with a good edge on it and does not dull easily. Many survival products come with mixed reviews, you just have to start using them in the woods or at home and gain experience and basically know how they work.

Good quality for the price.
Very sturdy with a good sheath. These are not high quality knives, but I bought them to put in survival kits. They are way more than adequate for this purpose. I will be buying four more of them.

not the greatest
Paracord isnt the best quality but it will do its job. The knife itself is amazing, decent sheath. The problem is the fire steel, it is very cheaply made and the rod itself is quite small.

Extremely sharp...
As others have stated, the paracord was wrapped a bit loose, so I re-wrapped it. But I was very surprised with how sharp it is. I expected at such a cheap price point that I'd have to spend some time with a stone to get i sharp, but not at all. Razor sharp right out of the box!!!
