Is a special pedal wrench a necessity, or can you screw in the bolts with a regular wrench?

You need a 4mm Allen Key Wrench, tighten to 22 inch pounds.

There are 5 bolt-patterns above, which combo do I order? I have the Shimano dual platform pedals as well, and have the Shimano road shoes: SH-RO78L

I have the bolts for multiple exit. They fit the Shimano dual platform pedals, they stay secure, but yet are much easier to exit when needed (3-way.. heel swing out, in or up.

Yes I have! They work fine - the springs on my pedals are little worn so my shoes slip a bit, but fairly sure again that this is my pedals not the clips.
