Make an old car modern again!
I had been thinking about getting one of these for a while now but I was a little hesitant. I finally decided to go for it and I am so glad that I did. This is a brilliant bit of kit.It arrived well packaged and with everything as advertised. Most people will use the mounting bracket and suction cup provided but I have done something a little different. I wanted to mount the display directly onto my existing LCD screen which I have no use for. This way it looks more like part of the car rather than having it floating on top of the dash. To do this I used Command Strips. Three of them affixed to the back of the unit. I had to unscrew the the little ball joint bracket to get a flush back but this took a few seconds. Then I applied the unit to the dash with the command strips. I was worried this might not hold but I can assure you that it is rock solid. I have been over potholes, speed bumps and country lanes with no wobbles at all. It’s absolutely set in place and isn’t going anywhere. But I can remove it if I want to as it’s basically Velcro.I have the unit connected with the aux cable which I have hidden behind my head unit. I’ve run the power cable behind my centre console and to the arm rest where I have a 12 volt power source. It took less than thirty minutes to do all of this. The unit looks smart and works brilliantly. When I start the engine the unit boots up. It takes about 30 seconds and then auto launches CarPlay when it detects my iPhone. CarPlay works as it should. Maps, music, podcasts, audible, WhatsApp, messages, Siri, etc. it’s all fast and impressive. The screen is nice and wide so lots of info can be displayed. It’s a pleasure to use. The touch screen is really responsive. I am chuffed to bits with this. It’s transformed my car.I wanted to change the boot logo to the Saab logo to match my car. The Saab logo was not available. A quick email to the RoadTop team and they provided me with a file and some instructions. I had the logo installed and working pretty quickly. They are good at responding to emails. They want to help and they are good at answering questions so don’t be afraid to ask.Oh and I was pleasantly surprised to find a reverse camera in the box. I hadn’t even noticed that when I ordered it. I haven’t installed it yet but that is something that I plan to do.I really can’t recommend this unit enough. It modernises old cars and brings them up to date. It makes driving safer. No need for the phone cradle anymore. I love it.Apologies for some of my photos not being great. It’s always dark at night so I’ve struggled to take good shots. The Saab logo looks a thousand times better than it appears on the photo.

waste of money
if you like your money and time then please do not go near this item.1. It is almost £300 where you would expect quality.I plugged it in and looked promising but then wouldn’t connect to my car’s audio. After a week of use suddenly as soon as it connects to my CarPlay the screen would go black.Within a few hours the whole thing turned black and even if power was on and phone said connected the screen would t show anything. I tried contacting them via support WhatsApp where they were not helpful.During my first week of use before screen went black. The connection from my phone to this display kept dropping and it was echoing for the other person on the call. To reconnect i had to restart the entire process again every time. If you are spending £300 you are expecting the product to run smoothly and without hassle.I’d strongly recommend you stay away from this.

Sound is not good
Who are they trying to fool with a £50 discount voucher? I bought this 2 weeks ago at £229, now it is £279 but with a ' £50 discount voucher'. Unless they are hoping people do not spot it and click to buy it at the higher price, which is a bit underhand Road-Top!Anyway the sound is not good, It has a lot of sibilance on the 5k-16k range and I have had to dial it down in the equaliser, otherwise it sounds very tinny especially cymbals etc. Non of the presets cure it, but turning those ranges down improves it (as in photo) but it then loses brightness at the top of the range.I am not a hifi buff by the way, just like to hear my Top 40, Police, Fleetwood Mac, Clapton, Eagles, Supertramp etc (haters... I don't care!) songs like they should be.I am using the aux input to the car aux in, I have even used gold plated better cables, but it is still there and doesn't improve it at allIt is also there when you use a radio channel with the FM.However when you use FM, as this unit switches off a second or two before the radio goes off, the sound then converts to an untuned radio crackle which is loud and annoying. So back with the aux connection. The aux connection won't let the steering controls skip tracks, you can use volume but that is because it is just controlling the car stereo.I am using an Android Samsung phone, If I select Bluetooth option then the music will not play at all through the car stereo I have deleted the phone connection from the car stereo as in the instructions, It may be because my car stereo does not support music streaming, but I am not sure if that should stop the new interface. My existing aftermarket cameras will not work with this unit, even using an RCA to jack adaptor, so I had to run the supplied cable and camera in instead, thus repeating a job I had already done once. The Google maps work very well but I have not found out how to remove the maps from the screen even though I am not navigating. They always appear on the screen, other than on rear view camera mode. You can use "Hey Google" to put in a post code too."Hey Google" will also work with my smart switches, so anything I ask Alexa to do this can do the same so I have removed my echo auto from the car. Saying "Hey Google turn on ******" will open my garage door for example.Saying "Hey Google play ****" will play my Spotify playlists,I am not using the suction mount because I have a storage box at the top centre of the dash, and this fits in it there perfectly so I am using Velcro which means I unplug it and can take it out when parked. One time I had no display at all even though the music was working, it was not because I had pressed the display off button,Nothing would work, and I was switching on and off, but it started working again on its own,I was considering returning it, but that would have meant stripping the dash apart again to remove all the cables and the rear camera etc, so I am living with it for now and hope it won't return. So, the Google maps, hey Google, Spotify, rear camera are all great. The sound is tinny but can be made a bit better,The steering controls don't work on mine and the bluetooth won't stream music, though the phone calls appear to work well, even for the caller on the other end.It is a good unit, but with tweaks and advice from Road Top, could be even betterIt looks good (though the interface Apple Carplay is a better screen, than Android auto)I have emailed Road Top with some questions to Sales @roadtop.com but they have not bothered to reply, so good luck if you need help, most of their question answers on here are not informative enough and say contact them! which is OK if they could even be bothered to answer.I feel if I tried another make, I am not sure I won't have similar, or even worse,

Well worth the black Friday price
Have tried a few cheaper types of these kind of devices and all have had their setbacks. On this one there can be a bit of a lag when connected via Bluetooth on calls, but Bluetooth lag is a pretty well known phenomena.I use the FM transmission to connect to my radio and it works incredibly well.Screen is clear and crisp, screen is shiny but visible is bright daylight.Works great as a hands free kit, sat nav and for playing music from Spotify or YouTube.Only criticism is no shortcut when in maps to turn the FM transmitter on or off or change the volume, that would be a welcome feature but overall very pleased with this product and can highly recommend. Would also like to use "Hey Google" without having to press the google button. The mount options are great too, very solid and confident the device is not going to stay sturdy.
