Zesty Paws Advanced Calming Bites with Melatonin Turkey 90ct

Yes, my big, bad, ferocious English Bulldog is scared of thunder and fireworks. We've tried many other calming medications and treats, but none work as well as this. He even has a thunder shirt, which does help. A little tip; if I get to dose him before the triggering event happens, he just goes to sleep. If he hears the thunder/ firework first, it's a fight to even get him to take the treat. He is 80 pounds and it takes 2 treats for him. Hope this is helpful!

BEWARE: My review may not apply to you, as many people have had great success with these chews! Just not me, at least not for the dog I intended them for. I'm chalking all of this up to the valerian in these chews. Valerian smells pretty pungent and tastes pretty bad, but more importantly, it can have stimulant effects on some dogs. I happen to have two of those dogs.SOME dogs may experience an increase in agitation, anxiety, activity, and even aggression when given valerian. In my experience, those dogs tend to be dogs with generalized anxiety who are easily stressed or who experience chronic stress, or who are generally easily agitated or excessively excitable. When these chews seemed to make my boy more agitated rather than less, I gave them to my other dogs, one of whom I know has an excitatory reaction to valerian. Two of my dogs passed out, the other got a burst of energy that came with lowered frustration tolerance, pushier than normal behavior, and lots of whining - she wanted something, but seemed to not know what exactly that something was. I went back to the ThunderWunders, which do not contain valerian, and my boy was able to chill out. I gave the remainder of these chews away.These were a relatively expensive disappointment that set my boy back in his counter conditioning and desensitization training progress.I've been working with dogs professionally for going on 20 years, so I'm no stranger to OTC natural anxiety supplements for dogs who get anxious either in certain situations or just about life in general, and I had high hopes for these chews.My Saint Bernard becomes stressed whenever it rains, and thunderstorms reduce him to little more than a trembling puddle of wet fur. The only thing he wants is to sit on my lap and hide under a blanket, but I would prefer we work through his anxieties to get him back to being unfazed by storms. We had made progress with the help of ThunderWunders, but the ZestyPaws chews have a better/more potent ingredient list and the recommended dosage is about half of what the ThunderWunders recommend. The main difference is valerian.Despite giving him these chews at the first sign of stress, they only allowed him to stop pacing. Instead, he sat in his crate drooling and trembling, even after giving him twice the dose (which is still well within the safe dosage limits for all ingredients for a dog his size.) Unfortunately, despite not pacing, he became hyper-sensitive to every little noise and movement. He only calmed and was able to sleep when I gave him a 200mg of L-theanine and 1000mg of ashwaganda.Lesson learned. You may have excellent results with these chews for your dog, but we didn't.

It Helps keep my dog calm during random fireworks exploding throughout the year. Random fireworks used to disturb her and cause her to panic but she now has a lesser reaction to the noise.

Works great during thunder storms

It is hard for me to get my dog to take anything that is remotely a pill. She just spits it out. She things these are treats.
