Tropico 4 Gold Edition

I heard about this game in the Best Buy Gamer Magazine but I did not have a x-box 360 at the time. Once I had the x-box, I figured I would look into this game a little bit more to see if I would like it. I must say, this is one of the most addicting game I have played in awhile. It is fun to play, easy to follow and hard to stop playing. The only negative thing I have to say about it is that there is not much instructions on how to do certain things.

Great game. Lots of fun to play for hours. It always ends up being "just one more building: that turns into hours and hours or play time. Load times could be improved but once in the game there aren't any so I guess it balances out. The two problems with the game is the slowdown that occurs when you have a lot on your island and have the national day active, and the random crashes that happen while playing. Well worth the money and high replay value.

I love this game and it plays great. The graphics are great. The music is Ok, great if you love "island" music from Jamaica or Cuba. The characters that help you or guide you are also period or local in dialect and appearance. (I believe the predominant language is Spanish, everyone has a kind of Spanish accent) The game itself is awesome, the only downside is the limitations on the Xbox360. After you get to around 500* people, the game locks and will not load saved cities. I common issue that can be read on the publishers forum. That's too bad because the game is better than SimCity 4 IMO, and is more fun to play. SIMCITY 4 is very detailed and complex, and that can take the fun out of it at times. Tropico4 would get a lot more playtime if it were not for this limitation.

Tropico is hard, i didn't know how to export products for a week and i still am not quite sure. After i got the hang of it its kind of boring and really hard with rebels even though i'm nice and it just is almost impossible to do great on the game. But now the biggest thing is after i save my game, i try to load it and the screen freezes. I haven't been able to load any saved games! So it isn't really worth buying unless u want to play for 10 straight hours because u cant load it! I feel that i'd enjoy the game once i fully figure everything out, but i cant load it and i'm definitely not leaving my xbox360 on or playing for hours on end.

Tropico 4 is quite fun. It has a wry sense of humor that is surprisingly well informed about the lamentable aspects of Latin American and Caribbean history. The gameplay is interesting and fairly addicting. But that just makes it difficult to tolerate the myriad serious bugs. The main campaign is relatively stable, although you will get assigned tasks that you cannot complete because they require things only available in the expansion pack. Don't try to demolish a salt mine and rebuild it--too risky. Play around too much while placing roads, and it will lock up. The Modern Times expansion pack could have been a nice addition. For the most part it just provides better versions of existing buildings. That would be more fun if you could still use the previous versions of buildings, but as each new building is introduced over time, you can no longer build the old versions. Modern Times apparently never went through beta testing. It locks up frequently; if you try a game in "sandbox" mode, after couple hours lockups become incessant and corrupted saved games are common. Using either the expansion or the original game, it becomes a slideshow after a while. Apparently the Xbox can't keep up with the simulation and graphic demands, but there's no way to reduce the visual complexity. Playing at a fast speed is asking for it to freeze. From what I gather, the developer has no interest in fixing anything.

Tropico is a "build your own island" SimCity-type game with a distinct tongue-in-cheek slant to its delivery. You take charge of a small tropical island as El Presidente, and it's up to you to figure out just how you're going to keep things running smoothly. Will you support the island economy through mining? Farming? Tourism? Will you strive to keep your citizens happy by offering them tax cuts and free housing, or will you just outlaw elections and surround your office with military bases in an attempt to thwart the monthly assassination attempts. The game's visuals are amazing. Every little detail is animated, and a great deal of time can be spent just "flying" over your island watching people go about their day. You can highlight any citizen and see their job, education, family tree, beliefs, and even their thought process. You may find several people upset that there are no luxury stores around, which lets you know to build a shopping mall that caters to high-end customers. You can also, if so desired, mark a random rebel or criminal to be arrested, assassinated or just to "have an accident". As beautiful as the game is, its real appeal is deep within the mechanics that keeps everything running. Everything in Tropico is connected in one way or another. Building logging camps is a quick way to boost the economy and provide jobs, but angers environmentalists. Shallow displays of patriotism impresses the uneducated, but bothers the intellectuals. Quite a few times, you'll find that your island dwellers need healthcare and education, but the buildings will remain unoccupied until you find qualified staff to run them. Building a solid base early on is essential to a productive island later on. The music is catchy and infectious, but is way too short. The soundtrack is an earworm of the worst kind, and it's gotten to the point where I had to mute the music and start playing my own. I really wish there was additional music available for download, because it'd be a necessary purchase after just a few days of gameplay.

Not quite a sims or a civilization, and was expecting a faster pace, i suppose with each platform comes there pros and cons. Best for a PC.

While I found this game to be extremely fun with all the elements required for a busy tycoon/building type game, I discovered it has one fatal glitch that does not have a patch to fix. Once your island population gets over the 500 mark and if you are playing at a higher speed, the game becomes choppy. But the FATAL glitch is that after you save a game where your population is over 500, when you try and load a game the next time you play, your XBOX will just freeze up and get stuck on the load screen. Apparantly this doesn't happen to all XBOX's, but it does happen to some and there is no fix for it. (Doesn't permanently freeze XBOX. Once you turn off it will start up again. But will not load Tropico 4). IF the developer comes out with a fix for this problem, I would give the game a 5 Star rating.

My kid loved it..
