I bought this tie for my child's costume. All Gryffindor products seem to have complaints about the authenticity of the colors. The tie strikes me as a shiny burgundy, but I can understand people seeing purple. I resolved the issue by waiting until we received the tie, then bought robe fabric to match. It's a quality adult tie (not a clip-on), but as long as your child's robe is closed, no one will notice the length. It doesn't have the Gryffindor crest on it, which is good, because no one has ever seen the crest on ties shown in the movies or described in the books. An added bonus is that you can borrow your child's tie to wear and have it look special to people who recognize it and normal to everyone else because there isn't a huge crest dangling on the end.

Perfect accessory to finish off the costume. Glad I purchased it. Yes, it is not a pure burgundy, but the costume robe I purchased at Amazon also had a more purple undertone to the hood's lining, so I didn't find it a big deal. My child wore it to school and out trick-or-treating, and the tie stayed perfect.

Cute. Really adds to costume. Material is stiff and a little hard to tie. The loop on the back of the tie to tuck in the end of the tie broke. I would get it again as there were not many other options, but quality was so-so. Good enough for the price and for Halloween.

Our 6 year old son wanted to dress up as Harry Potter for Halloween this year. He has the cloak, the wand, the glasses (purchased on Amazon as well) and now the tie. When paired with khaki pants, a dress shirt and the lightning scar- he REALLY looks like HP! The tie is somewhat purple as others reviewers have stated, but definitely looks like a Gryffindor tie. It is good quality, though I'm not sure why it isn't a clip on. Not educational in any way, but loads of fun for any HP fan!

I was afraid to get a low cost cheap quality tie. I bought 3 and thought they would come with no package and just on a plastic bag. But they came each one on their original retail package. Amazing quality for a great price

Okay, right off the bat, the color of this tie was really off. It's purple, plain and simple. I read the mixed reviews regarding the color, but I'm not a picky person and tend to think people can be a bit dramatic in reviews, so I took my chances. Well, the people who said the color was wrong were definitely right this time. That being said, it was purchased to wear with my 8-year-old daughter's Hermione costume and it got the job done. If I had spent a lot of money on it, I probably wouldn't have been thrilled, but the price was right so I really can't complain. My daughter was fine with it and the price was great. Also, free shipping and I received it about a week after I ordered it. Overall, not a bad purchase for my needs.

The tie is allot better quality then i expected considering some of the reviews on here. It looks and feels like a typical men's tie. The only problem is that it is about the same length as a standard tie so that it ends up being very long on little ones. But under a house robe, you cannot really tell that it is really long.

Ordered five of these for day out to watch Deathly Hallows part 2 Imax NYC. They were just the job. I was hesitant about the negative reviews on colour, it seems many people have different opinions on what is burgandy,purple,reds etc...), but the more expensive deluxe version (available too at Warner Bros $24.95 + S&H) has similar mixed reviews. These I reckon are same colour, with deluxe you get the school badge at the bottom. We watch HP movies a lot and I cannot recall ties having badge at bottom, so these cheaper may be more accurate too.The reviews are so mixed and confusing I even briefly considered getting Slytherin ties.Bottom line, we got noticed plenty (no costumes,just ties over white shirts), lots of smiling faces for us Gryffindors and people starting conversations about Harry Potter. It seemed pretty obvious to New Yorkers we met what these ties represented, so I wouldn't let the negative reviews sway you, especially on the colour, as the deluxe version is same, so unless you really want the badge for around $10.00 extra, these are great for looking like you go to school at Hogwarts.
