Trackball Mouse

Excellent track ball mouse, fits nicely to my palm, ball seems a little rattly but could be due to my hand resting in the wrong place ,the scroll wheel is good and the ergonomics are great. the mouse pointer is pretty accurate. I think it will just be a matter of getting use to the mouse, the old one was a Kensington track ball probably a first addition its over a decade old and the side button were getting a bit worn, but I like the Kensington track ball mouses so I will persevere.

I have used Kensington trackballs for years (this optical one will be my 5th), they occupy less space than a mousepad, the mouse cable does not get pulled about and they do everything a standard two-button mouse could do, only better. The older mechanical units are fine when you first get them but as time goes by the small rubber wheels get clogged with dust and fluff, which can be cleaned off as first but in time the rubber of the wheels turns to black goo and then the whole mechanism will stop working. If the rubber wheels could have been replaced, then perhaps I would never have bought the optical unit? I expect this trackball never to wear out and therefore be my last. This optical trackball is really very much lighter to use than the mechanical ones but the mass of the ball seems about the same and I can go whizzing from one side of the screen to the other, letting the trackball do all the work. It is equally useable with the left hand as well as the right and always being in the same position on the desktop, it makes for a strainfree existence. Worth the money? Absolutely, I would recommend this device anytime. If it was wireless it would be even better.

I picked up the Kensington Orbit Wired Trackball to help with some wrist strain, and overall, it’s a really solid, comfortable device. The ambidextrous design is great, and it feels high-quality on my desk. Here is my honest breakdown after spending some time with it: The Tracking: Out of the box, this thing is *fast*. The tracking sensitivity was so high that the cursor was flying across my screen at the slightest touch. I had to go into my system settings and significantly reduce the pointer speed to get it under control. Once adjusted, it works perfectly and is incredibly precise, but be prepared to tweak your settings on day one. The Ergonomics: As someone looking for an ergonomic alternative to a standard mouse, this delivers. It keeps your hand stationary and reduces wrist movement, which is exactly what I wanted. The Downside (No Scroll): The biggest adjustment for me—and the reason it loses a star—is the complete lack of a scrolling mechanism. I am so used to a traditional scroll wheel, and having absolutely nothing on this trackball to scroll through long webpages or documents is a bummer. You have to rely on clicking and dragging scroll bars or using keyboard shortcuts. Final Verdict: It gets **4 stars** from me. It’s a well-built, comfortable trackball that functions exactly as it should once you turn down the sensitivity. If you don't mind navigating without a scroll wheel, it's a fantastic buy!

love this i use it for both my pc and my mac.

Love this mouse a lot better than others on the market, it a quick reaction mouse gamers could easily use this mouse

I've bought three of these, as they are (to me) the only ergonomic finger mouse that you can buy in the UK, bar the extremely overpriced Kensington slimblade which tbh isnt quite as good and isnt quite as ergonomic. As Amazon muddles all of these reviews together, this one is for the Kensington Orbit WITHOUT the scroll ring. I have.... A lot of issues with these and tbh this is a rant that could go on and on, but I still buy them as there's little real alternative if you want a genuinely ergonomic finger trackball. The bad: Base is naturally unstable - you will have to glue or stick something under the cable end or it will rock like crazy every time you use it without your hand on the rest. The buttons will give out after a couple of years of use. It uses that rubberised coating on the rest that inevitably goes skanky and sticky after a few years (and even quicker with regular use). The ball is... Sometimes manufactured ok and sometimes not. If the randomly generated pattern of the grey ball has a completely black spot on it (two of mine do) you will have a dead zone in the movement. Thankfully the ball is easily removable and can also be replaced with the blue ball from the orbit with scroll wheel which has a proper micro pattern and thus always works. The orbit with scroll is a truly dreadful mouse from an ergonomic perspective tho. The sensor is cheap as chips and is comparable to a very cheap office mouse. It would have been considered high end in 1999. Even worse is that it uses an energy saving mode (why???) so expect a second wake up lag every time you leave it alone for a minute. There is no ability to scroll. Personally this doesn't bother me much as I only use office programs (I work in law) I remember computers before scrolling was a thing and I'm handy with keyboard shortcuts, but there are programs out there outside of my profession that now require a scroll wheel of some sort. I get that this is a decades old design, but surely Kensington could find a way to implement a modifier button at least. The manufacturing is shoddy and very hit and miss. Black spots on the balls aside, I've had some very scratchy balls and the feel of the buttons on all of these is very inconsistent despite being the same model. The good: and the reason this review has three stars - there is nothing else currently manufactured and for sale in the UK that fits this ergonomic profile.

I've just purchased this as a replacement for the previous version of the same model, which functioned well from around 2001 until January this year - a good return on a modestly priced device. This model appears exactly the same size/shape as the previous model I owned, but has been upgraded from mechanical to optical - so rather than the ball rotating small wheels inside the housing (which tended to clog up now and again with grime) it now works by an optical sensor detecting when the wheel moves. This should make the device even more durable. I find ergonomics perfect for my moderately sized hands (maybe smaller than average, but not freakily so). The device is symmetrical, so can be placed on either side of the keyboard for left/right handers equally effectively. The ball has a satisfying weight, and moves smoothly. It does come out when the device is inverted, so take care...perhaps that makes this device less appropriate for use out and about with a laptop - I wouldn't want to drop the ball on a train and have to root around under chairs to find it. On a desk, it is not a problem...the device is not going to fall over on its own accord. No set up required, just plugs in and plays perfectly (in windows 10 at least). A decent length cable is provided which will be perfect for most users (i.e. if your PC is under the desk). I've taken a look at the small stabilizing wheels where by previous version broke. The design of this component has changed in this model, and looks to my eye to be even more durable and secure. With the reasonable price, and expected durability, I see offering great value.

I first started using a trackball mouse at work because I was getting a constant ache in my shoulder, which I put down to the movements using a regular mouse (my job involved me being on the computer most of the day). Once I'd been using the trackball for a week or so, I noticed that the ache was easing up, and it soon disappeared. People at work struggle to use my mouse if they come over to my desk to show me something, but I took to it from day 1. I find if I try to use a regular mouse now I struggle until I get used to it. Great gadget, and very useful if you have limited room as it doesn't need to move - the ball on the top does all the work. I have 1 for both my home computer and laptop (can't get on with the laptops built in mouse at all). Kensington also do a trackball mouse that isn't optical, but it's worth paying that little bit extra for the optical. The other type picks up more dirt and fluff, which sticks to the rubber rollers that the ball sits on, the movement of which controls the curser. You have to keep cleaning the rubbers, and eventually they wear so the ball can't get any traction. The optical mouse still picks up fluff on the 3 little balls that hold the trackball, which also causes it to lose traction, but you just wipe off the fluff with finger or tissue and you're off again.

Fits the hand well. Easy to set up. I have been using a well known marble mouse for years, but it appears to be obsolete now. Any on the secondary market are horrendously overpriced, so finding this as a replacement is great.
