I am 5'6" and roughly 260lbs. I wear an xl in pants (16w) as a plus size woman. Do these run small or should I go up a few sizes?

They run short in length, for myself. Also no pockets but due to the high and wide waist band it added more width around me.

I am 170 and 5’3 I bought the XL. They are a true fit you might find the waist a little snug in the XL. I hope that helps. I love these hopes, I bought the blue and green.

does drawstring work or is it only elastic?

There is no drawstring, the ties is for show. There is only elasric. I would have wanted drawstrings, the elastic fits good. one dayit won't or want to feel more secure with drawstrings.
