Inspired by The HobbitTM and The Lord of the RingsTM, the immortal works by J.R.R. Tolkien, each Bag EndTM Door Lapel Pin (Hat Tack) is carefully handcrafted one at a time in precious metal by the Badali Jewelry artists. The Hobbit hole door lapel pin is an officially licensed jewelry design with Middle-earth Enterprises. The most iconic feature of Bag End, the home of Bilbo BagginsTM and later Frodo BagginsTM, was its beautiful green door. "It had a perfectly round door like a porthole, painted green, with a shiny yellow brass knob in the exact middle"TM. The rune found in the top right corner is the secret mark made by GandalfTM to alert Thorin'sTM Dwarven party that this was the home of their burglar and treasure hunter. The mark is a Dwarvish bindrune combining the meanings of the "F" and "R" runes. Together the runes indicate that the occupant of the home is in search of a journey for wealth, treasure and adventure and is willing to travel, or as Gandalf described it, "Burglar wants a good job, plenty of excitement and reasonable reward"TM. The Hobbit hole door pin is in sterling silver. The door pin measures approximately 21.1 mm (just under 7/8") in diameter and approximately 2.3 mm (1/8") thick. The pin weighs approximately 5.2 grams in sterling silver. The Bag End Door pin is hand finished with a rich green enamel. Each door knob is plated with 24k gold to give it its distinct "brass" finish. The back of the pin is textured.
