Works great. Well built
I spent days researching which model honer to get, and I'm glad I chose this one. Pair this with a really good wet stone or diamond plates and you will not be disappointed. It works very well it's very durable very easy to use and overall is a great product. Good value for the money. Durability is on point. My chisels and planes have never been so sharp.

Good and solid, and I like the single wheel
I got this to replace a honing guide that rode on a pair of wheels rather than a single wheel. The 2-wheeled variety was OK when I was using sandpaper-on-glass for sharpening, but no longer worked once I bought a set of diamond sharpening plates. The two wheels straddled the plates, and for that reason the height was all wrong, which meant that the sharpening a gle was wrong. In fact, because my diamond plates were on the thick side, the 2-wheeled honing guide didn’t work at all because there wasn’t enough clearance. With this single-wheeled honing guide, the wheel rolls directly ON the sharpening plates, so it doesn’t care how thick the plate is.I also have a Worksharp sharpening station which is OK for sharpening chisels, but the honing guide for that is not wide enough for a plane iron.i chose this particular model of honing guide because it is made of stainless steel, and I am glad I did that because it is extremely solid. There are cheaper models out there with the same basic design, but this one is good and solid. I am very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone.

Sharpening
Works as advertised. Well made. Have had some trouble with smaller shanked chisels such as 1/4 inch. Harder to get it to lay flat against the frame because the bevels on the sides are a lille different between this devise and MY chisels. But you just have to make sure your chisels laying FLAT on the stone. No problems at all on the larger sizes. I use just up to 1/2 inch chisel, but I have sharpened a Stanley plane blade in it and it worked fine. Good investment if you like to stop frequently to top off your chisels. It’s nice to just slip my chisel in it and quickly set the degree I want- hit it 6-7 licks on the diamond sharpener I use- 3-4 licks on a razor strap and I’m back to slicing and dicing dovetails in under 3 minutes. Just make sure you are exact on the degree you want. Degree is determined by how far your chisel extends from the front of this holder. I made a jig for it- don’t have to measure each time. Quality item. Something a real machinist might be proud of.

Excellent Quality - Won't work well with chisels that have tapered bevels on their sides
I can't decide if I should have dropped a star just because it didn't work for my situation. It is really a 5 star tool. It just has what I would think is an obvious limitation: it can't easily hold a chisel with a tapered bevel.I think the product could just be slightly better with an add-on that could be 2 inside spacer/adapters to fit a broader variety (almost all) chisels. The tool is excellent quality, size, packaging, instructions and it works excellent for tools without a tapered bevel on the top. It isn't the cheapest version but, it is well worth the extra for the quality of build.Since the tool is not tapered (why and how could it ever be and fit every taper possible?) it just doesn't work well to get a square edge for those chisels which are the majority of my collection. I get why the inside faces of the tool are beveled (cross section example: /________\) as many chisels are beveled. But for many of my chisels that have a compound bevel + taper from cutting edge back to handle, it would have been better to have flat sides for the tool for that situation. |_________|. That would take out the tapered bevel from the equation and facilitate clamping square to the sharpening edge.I like the guide so much I'm going to try to make some 'spacers' (3D print or just hit some square stock with a sanding block until I match the tools bevel) that will 'take the bevel out' of the sides so it better holds my chisels. What would be GREAT is if the manufacturer made such spacers that you could insert and basically make the inside edges square vs. beveled, it would be a perfect product IMO. Maybe someone will make these things and start selling them...haha.Maybe there's a trick that I don't know to hold my chisels and as such, maybe I unfairly dropped a star in my ignorance.Hopefully, this makes sense and helps with your purchase.

Nice product.
Holds bevel edge chisels much better than the less expensive similar guide I have used for years. The machining helps grab the chisel edges more securely. The included small wrench is useful for a good grip on the chisel or plane blade. Nicely made. Operates smoothly.

Good but has a problem that may not bother you
If you need a guide for plane blades I think you may be happy with this. It is certainly better than the cheaper alternatives. However, if you need to sharpen chisels than are 1/2" or less, the one I received would not work. The problem is that when you tighten the sides to the chisel they are touching the wheel. The 1/2" chisel was almost clearing but not quite. When holding it in my hand the wheel would barely turn. The reason for that is the wheel wasn't perfectly round so when you got to one side it would turn but the it caught when it came around. When I put a 1/4" chisel in, which brings the sides closer to the center of the wheel it wouldn't turn at all. In either case, as you as you place it down and apply any pressure that just adds more tension on the wheel. If at that point you aren't paying attention and start honing you will put a flat spot on the wheel. Some reviewers complain about the wheel flattening out so I can only assume that is what they experienced. It seems that if they would make allowances in the machining for this issue they would have a very good alternative to the more expensive options on the market.
