Love it!
This is exactly what I needed for my crochet! I can set a huge skein of yarn (Mega Ball, Pound of Love, etc.) and happily go on crocheting! The design is very simple but also very useful. The pads on the bottom keep it from moving around and the spindle turns and spins with ease. I do not have to tug on the yarn. Bonus- I have actually put 2 cakes on there at once. So I can easily change color and not have to stop the work flow. (Use a hair clip to secure the loose outside end when not using that cake!)The only sort-of negative are the holes at the bottom of the spinner. I have no idea why they are there, I’m sure there must be a reason (I hope) but at times the yarn does like to creep in there and get stuck. I’ve seen reviews using frog tape to fix this, so I will be trying that!

Great gadget for knitters & crocheters
Great gadget for knitters & crocheters!I got this on a whim, especially after buying my first yarn winder. This dispenser works well with center pull balls - though you will be feeding your yarn from the outside in. Simply impale your yarn cake on the dispenser and go to town! Over the years, I have used all kinds of methods to hold my yarn as I was crafting - from toilet paper rolls and standing paper towel holders, to just letting my yarn skitter around the floor. And feeding yarn from a retail skein means I spent more time picking out knots and cussing at everyone in the room than actually making something! This dispenser is a great tool to keep your yarn in place, and feed it without knots (hooray!!).I found that because it's plastic on plastic, the spinning motion can become a little more difficult as you use it, and it will tense up. This situation is easily remedied by shooting a quick spray of WD-40 in the inside of the funnel (the white part), and putting it back on the green base. Make sure you return it to your husband's workbench before he runs around the house trying to find it and gives you the evil eye when he discovers you've taken it. Or...you can just buy a little itty bitty can of WD-40 and store it with your other crafting items. Surprisingly, I actually like the ruler that is imprinted in the base - great for checking gauge. It's a wonderful tool if you travel with your crafts, too. Just stuff it in your bag, yarn ball and all, and place it on a table, floor or wherever you're most comfortable. I found that the little feet it comes with aren't the best for me, and decided to use a square of that grippy shelf liner stuff on my lapdesk. Works great!I use a ball winder and the winder and this dispenser...wow...I can't believe how long I waited to add these tools to my crafting. I really like it!

I like it!
I was curious about this one after seeing other types of yarn holders. I now have this model and a wooden one that keeps the yarn skein in place with a magnet. For the money, this was a very good buy. I attached the little rubber feet and it has stayed in place very well for me. Per other reviewers' instructions I added a dab of petroleum jelly to the top of the spool holder where you place the yarn holder, but it hasn't made it turn any easier at all. I have since found out that that's okay, because it provides a subtle tension which helps when crocheting. It is working well for me so far, and I really love not having to pull from the center of the skein, which I had been doing. This keeps the yarn in one place so that it doesn't move around the table, and something like this should have been invented LONG ago, in my opinion. I wish there had been one available when I first started crocheting 25 years ago. The only slight drawback is that the yarn occasionally requires a tug when it comes from the bottom of the skein, but I've gotten used to that now and it doesn't bother me. As many have mentioned, I can't for the life of me figure out why the manufacturer placed the slots along the bottom of the skein holder. So far I haven't had yarn getting caught there, but I can see how it could happen.

Works well with slight modifications.
The concept is great but when the description says 'non'-'slip', there are indentations for rubber feet to make it non-slip but there are no rubber feet on the indentations. My husband had to make and glue rubber feet to make it non-slip. Also, I had to glue some flat rocks onto the bottom to give it some weight so that when you are working with cone yarns or crochet thread, it does not topple over when pulling off the thread or yarn while crocheting. It is just me that when you spend good money on something, you want it to be sturdy enough to last.

Solved My Twisting Yarn Problem
I didn't think I needed one of these until I met a skein of yarn that must have been spun in hell. Alas, no matter what I did, the yarn twisted up on itself in tighter-than-tight curly-cues. I tried pulling yarn from the center and then pulling from the outside all to no avail - pulling the yarn in either manner caused it to twist. I call this item "Yarn Susan" because it spins in a circle like a Lazy Susan. This works well as long as I didn't get in a hurry and pull to hard causing the yarn to pull over the top of the Yarn Susan, which again, caused the yarn to twist. Just relax and let the yarn feed itself from the outer edge as you knit or crochet, and you'll have no problem. I did take a tip from another commenter about placing a tiny dab of Vaseline on the tip of the inner green post so the dispenser spins smoothly and quietly.

Ok, not great
This thing does twirl like it should. The top is heavier than the base, which means when the yarn gets a little tight the entire thing topples over. I really dont use it because of this, so it was a mast of money. Luckily, it wasnt terribly expensive.

works great, plus great customer service
The yarn dispenser works perfectly for me. I use it with the yarn cakes, they fit well. The top part with the cake spins almost freely. It was making really bad squeaking sound at first. I emailed manufacturer, and they answered me very quickly, withing an hour, and suggested to use a lubricant on the top of the green base - Vaseline, olive oil or WD-40, which I did and it solved the problem. They also told me that they are aware of the problem and the better version will be coming next month.I love how much easier it makes my life. I put it on the shelf at eye level, and it stays put and lets me have my yarn when I need it, and as much or little as I want.

Great product
I don't know why I didn't get one of these years ago - would have prevented a lot of 'tangle headaches'. This yarn dispenser works perfectly. I would definitely recommend it to others.

It does the job it is supposed to.
Keeps the yarn from rolling around the floor, and allows it to unwind easily.

Tip: Use hot glue to close up those weird gaps in the spindle and to add weight to the base!
Great for those big chunky yarn skeins :) I haven't quite found anything (aside from maybe a paper towel dispenser) that handles thicker yarns as well.I will agree that the weight of the unit itself can be kind of a nuisance, alongside the weird slits in the spindle in the middle. I used hot glue to seal up those slits in addition to adding weight to the base in order to keep it stationary and sturdy! If you work with smaller skeins, I would suggest something else akin to a yarn bowl! However for my purposes, it works like a breeze after some tweaking :)Have fun!
