Light and durable
I have owned several types of camping mats through the years and all have pros and cons. The most comfortable I've had was a self-inflating model that had three chambers plus an inflatable "pillow." While it was the most comfortable, it was also the heaviest.Another I've used was a Thermarest self-inflating mat. It was on the lower end of their line as far as price goes, but was quite comfortable, light, and packed down small. However, it lacked durability and after just a few uses, I somehow managed to puncture it.So, I recently ordered the Rothco foam mat. It is not as comfortable as those I've already written about, but I can sleep well on it. The advantage it has over inflatable mats is it is made from closed-cell foam. So, if you're one of those folks who takes a simple approach to camping and enjoys sleeping under a tarp or similar situation where you have no floor, this is a good choice. You don't have to worry about it failing due to a puncture or possibly a spark from a campfire. There are probably other uses for it, too. I've considered ordering another and cutting a section to fit in my three-day pack for added padding between its contents and my back. That same piece could pull double-duty as a pad for my knees or back as needed around camp. I've also considered cutting a section to use as a seat and back pad when I choose to deer hunt from the ground.I guess all that is to say consider your needs when buying a camping mat. If durability and light weight are priorities, this should do the job well. If you want something closer to the comfort of your mattress at home, you'll be disappointed in this.

It doesn't need a warranty.
It meets the basic criteria to be a good ground / insulating pad. This isn't made to comform to your body and make it posible to sleep on a pile of rocks and sticks it's made to insulate you from the ground which is the number one way you looose heat once your head is covered while sleeping. I'm just a little guy at 5'10' and 165 lbs so I fit on it just fine. It also works good in a hamock but you will need to taper the ends a little. The best thing is that it is very light and though it does take up some room, you never have to worry about it loosing the ability to hold air as it's only means of insulation. Trust me, a few days in the cold sleeping on a deflated and usless sleeping pad and you'll deal with a matress that doesn't pack as well but will always do it's job. I'll NEVER use an inflatable pad again. I don't care who makes it or for how long it's warrantied. You can't sleep on a warranty.

For what this is it is a good product
If your looking for a decent sleeping pad this will suit your needs. No foam sleeping pad I have ever used had been anywhere near as comfortable as a air matress but its quick to set up and wont deflate on you in the middle of the night either. One word of caution, if you plan on mostly car camping at state parks and the like get an air matress. I took this on an early season overnight to a state park where you can only pitch a tent on their designated area (hard packed gravel and sand lot) on the camp site and I felt like I was sleeping on the driveway at home.If your just going to be on the regular old forest floor this will suit you fine for what it is.

NOT a military type mat, nowhere near as rugged or long-lasting.
When I purchased this mat I was under the impression that it was a military type of sleeping mat. It is not! It may look like a military style mat but it is nowhere as durable or long-lasting. A military mat is very rugged and can be used on top of gravel but this mat is not made of the same material and will quickly compress when you get on top of it. If you plan on using this mat as an outdoor workout mat you should forget it as it can quickly be torn apart and break down. I am very disappointed in the lack of ruggedness of this mat and would not buy it again or recommend it to anybody. Instead, buy a real military surplus sleeping mat.

New rothco vs used surplus mat
If your looking at sleep mats and your deciding on Army Navy pt mats you narrowed your choices to used and new. New would be a thermarest mat, more expensive than this and less durable. Then there's the foam mat which in my opinion, is more durable. My issued thermarest pt mat "was" somewhat stout but a pin hole and the thermarest would re-inflate the mat with the valve shut. That was never an issue with the "old" pt mats.I chose this new rothco mat over used pt mats because the ties on used surplus mats are crappy at best. These mats new wont have missing ties, or gnarly ties. A little wider than I remember, a bread knife can fix that.Thx for reading.

dog box liner
I bought this pad to line the bottom of my duck blind dog box. My dog loves it and after a retrieve in the cold water now has a floor that allows him to regain his heat quickly. I have a neoprene coat for him, but he still shivered constantly when sitting. Now after several minutes on the pad he is much more comfortable. I would think this would also be a good floor for any dog house as long as your dog is not a digger, for then the dog would tear it up pretty quickly. Another use I could see would be Lambeau stadium. The seats are all metal bleachers and the floor is concrete. You could cut this pad to fit several seats and another for your feet. The closed cell would allow you to wash off the beer certain to find its way on one or both of the pads.:):):)
