Great idea, but disappointed
I use my iPad Pro quite a bit for handheld gaming, which requires me to remove it from the Smart Keyboard case. So I’ve been looking for a good solution for protecting the iPad Pro on its own without having to put on and remove a separate case.I had high hopes for this one, but a couple things led me to return it. The first is that this case is very uncomfortable to hold in your hands: The case ends at the bottom corners to leave the bottom edge of the iPad open, and those corners are sharp plastic that dig into your palms when you’re holding the iPad for gaming. The second is more aesthetic: The case looks and feels cheaper than I expected given my experience with SwitchEasy cases. It almost feels like a 3D print with a thin layer of printing stuck inside; that layer even had bubbles on mine.I love the pass-through Smart Connector feature and the secure spot for the Pencil—the idea of the case is great. It just doesn’t get the details right.

Finally a way to protect your 2018 ipad pro
Ever since i bought my 2018 iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard, I’ve been concerned about its safety. I falsely presumed that for almost $200., the Apple Smart Keyboard would also serve as a protective cover, but it’s basically a Manila file and more than once, the iPad Pro slipped out and fell on the floor. I’ve been checking Amazon monthly searching for a “2018 iPad Pro 12.9 inch cover compatible with the Smart Keyboard” to no avail, hoping someone with common sense, design skills and the financial means to come up with a solution would prevail. I was rewarded yesterday when I got my CoverBuddy made by a company called Soley.I got mine in the dark grey color to match the space grey of my iPad Pro. I was a little surprised that it was manufactured using a hard plastic material instead of a softer silicone like many iPhone cases. But it works! The iPad Pro snaps/slips into the CoverBuddy covering the top and sides with cutouts for all iPad Pro features including volume control on/off speakers and usb-c charger. It also has an enclosure for your Apple Pencil because everyone knows that the magnet will not hold the pencil in place if it is put inside a backpack or other carrying case. A one inch cutout behind the pencil storage area makes for easy pencil removal. The bottom edge of the CoverBuddy is about a quarter inch shy of exactly covering the ipad, leaving clearance room so that you can actually close the Smart Keyboard without having to remove the CoverBuddy from the ipad (like I had to with a previous back cover.) That extra clearance is also designed so that the ipad fits into both slots for easy viewing, leaving the the two bottom corners partially exposed. The back of the Coverbuddy boasts of a patented technology with magnets to hold the back of the Smart Keyboard in place and ensuring power will pass through the CoverBuddy for seamless use with the Smart Keyboard.Overall the CoverBuddy design doesn’t interfere with the aesthetic of the iPad Pro. I consider it invisible even with the extra covered area for the pencil. The CoverBuddy even includes a thin screen protector and suggests that the thicker tempered glass covers may not allow the Coverbuddy to close properly. It also recommends only using Apple chargers because some third party charging cords have a wider design requiring more clearance room around the usb-c slot. For 39.99 the Coverbuddy which is compatible with Apple’s keyboard and smart folio is a great deal.
