150-600mm 5-6.3 Contemporary DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon

Well, over a year using this lens and I can't complain... To me this was the perfect super lens for wildlife, is not that heavy, works good and has great sharpness. This lens has been on my nikon body for almost a year... is the only lens I've been using in 95% of the situations. I try focusing in really dark situations and I got very sharp images. Auto focus is fast and accurate, probably not the faster on the market but is the faster on my bag so is enough for me. I preffer this version than the new one (60-600mm) When you are shooting wildlife, in general this is the perfect range for every situation. There's only few things that I found that are not great and can be better SIGMA Color rendition is not as good as the other zoom lens I use, because I found this SIGMA lens model has a blue shift, not a big problem because can be fixed on body or in post, but is an extra that I have to do. (I recomend do this on post because I notice is not the same quantity and quality in every light situation) Compared with the other zoom lens this one has 600mm and that has been really great. IS is really helpful, I can shoot 1/125 handheld at 600mm and that is great, with my previous 500mm with out IS I have to be around 1/320 This lens is not perfect, but for wildlife photography has been amazing to have it, probably a 12K 600mm lens has less aberrations and chromatic shifts but for this price and with the few issues If I have to, I will buy it again. I love this SIGMA lens.

I'm totally amazed with the way this lens shoots, both with the matched Sigma 1.4 Teleconverter and without... The highly rated 1.4 Teleconverter is also worth every penny, and takes 'No' sharpness away, I also believe only adds to it. Auto focus worked perfect also with the TC and is so fast. I'm using this wonderful lens mounted on my new beloved Nikon Z6 Mk2 full frame Mirrorless camera for both wildlife and astrophotography, including quite a bit of deep-sky work... The lens and camera are mounted on a gimbal equipped heavy-duty tripod I used in my Photography business for 14 years. After reading everything I could on this Sigma 150-600 Contemporary lens, I also read so many who compared the sharpness of this C lens very close, and even equal in several cases to the 1lb heavier Sport lens which also costs $1k more... The S lens is probably a tiny bit sharper with it's extra glass group but for a grand more and a pound heavier this Lens has totally amazed me. I've intended for 2 years to finally purchase a high-quality Telescope and GoTo Equatorial tracking mount but simply haven't been able to chose which type, so this Samsung 150\210mm to 600\850mm (with 1.4 Teleconverter) lens has been perfect for the interim. Zooms traditionally being a bit soft wide open, as well as at the full zoom position are well known compared to Prime lenses and individual lenses each have their own personality for sweet spots... With this in mind I truly believe I've purchased a very fine piece... I can only pray they are all coming out of manufacturing with this great quality. As many have attested my lens is a tiny bit soft at 150mm yet still very acceptable, but from there out to 600\850mm its razor sharp... I've found f9 to be it's sweet spot, but f11 out to f40 are almost just as sharp, it's very close all the way including out to 850mm. One of the images I'll add shows two bucks measured on Google Earth at 3\4 mile and was shot at 850mm with the matching 1.4 Sigma Teleconverter.. The heat distortion was huge considering it was shot off my car hood last week at our record 16°. The image is a bit fuzzy but considering it was shot hand held off my car hood at 3\4 mile with so much heat distortion and 850mm I was impressed. I'll add a couple others as well. This lens is an amazing accomplishment for Sigma and is well worth every penny.

Super sharp. Exactly what I was looking for. Works exceptionally well with the FTZ II adapter on my Nikon Z5. Any the price I paid for the used in very good condition I honestly couldn’t have gotten a better deal anywhere. Sharp and worth every penny. I would have gladly paid full price for a new one in the box but for essentially half off what the other sellers are offering on here I couldn’t turn it down. Absolutely love it.

This lens is incredible for the price. I originally bought the 100-400mm Sigma, which I understand is pretty much the same as this lens other than size/reach, and that lens was really good, but I think this one is a bit sharper. The reason I upgraded was because I loved the 400mm reach and got addicted to it, and figured 600 was better than 400, right?? I will say that this is quite a bit bigger and heavier than the 100-400mm version (twice the weight). Your forearm WILL get tired of you handhold this for too long, but it’s bearable. The autofocus on this is a little slower than the 100-400mm, and it seems to hunt more - but it’s possible it’s because the extra reach compresses the scene more (that’s just a guess, I don’t know if that’s actually how it works). Costwise it’s not much more than the 100-400, so I would base your decision on whether you’re okay with the extra size and weight. I could fit the 100-400 in my camera bag just fine with the hood and camera attached, but I had to upgrade my bag for this. That said, the reach is AWESOME, coming from a 200mm. I’m using it on a Nikon D7500, giving an effective 900mm telephoto reach. The construction of the lens seems very high quality and solid. I couldn’t be happier. The one down side of this lens (and it is a big down side) is that it’s awful in low light. It’s completely fine in daylight, but in shade you’ll be using pretty high ISO to have even a chance at a good shot. On a cloudy day in the shade, you’ll have trouble even at high ISOs. Lastly, I tried this on my old Nikon D5000, which doesn’t do well at higher than 400 ISO, and it was unusable in anything other than bright daylight, so I might not buy this if you have an old camera. That said, if you want anything even close to this kind of reach in a faster lens, you’ll pay 10-20x the price of this, so take that for what it’s worth. There always trade offs. For the price this is an insanely great lens.

I have been in the market for a 150-600 lens in a Nikon F mount for quite a while. It was a choice between the Sigma and the Tamron. I went with the Sigma because of the price. What I like - fast auto focus, incredible image quality, good stabilization, so far I have only used the mode 1 stabilization, but I will be using the mode 2 (panning) in the near future. The focus limiter is also good, if you select the appropriate range the focus is incredibly fast. It can be a bit slow on my D500 if switching between something distant, and something relatively nearby when the lens is in full range. My only complaints are that it is a bit heavy when using it handheld, and that the lens foot does not have an Arca Swiss style mount built in. For the foot, I just added the extra mount, and for the weight - well all that I can say is that I will need to do a bit more workouts during the week.

I was impressed by this lens' performance but I found some Cons that I wanted to share too. I should say that I've been shooting in bright day light so far and can't tell how this lens performs otherwise. Pros: - autofocus speed is very good even at 600mm. I didn't observe any "focus hunting" at all so far. - manual focus is pretty manageable. The manual focus ring is positioned conveniently enough - I found that the best results could be achieved in combining manual focus (focusing on the object initially using left hand) and auto focus (zeroing in by pressing the shutter button half way down). - a pleasant surprise was that this lens does come with a nice cushioned bag and straps (which is not among the pictures when you are buying this lens Cons: - when I first found this item on Amazon, it was $835. While I was thinking and getting ready to buy, it went up to $840 and then to $855! That happened within 1 hour. Not cool, Amazon! I feel I overpaid $20 for this item for no reason. - beware, this lens is very heavy! I should say that you may get used to it and even may be able to shoot without a tripod (I did, with pretty good results) but at first it seemed to me impossible to use this lens without a tripod. - auto focus may not pick the object of your interest at first and instead focus on something near it. The workaround is (see my "Pros" above) to combine both manual and autofocus for best results

The price to value ratio is incredible for this lens, I had broken an older 80-400 Nikkor, and just could not see buying the more expensive version, and frankly have been disappointed lately on the lack of shock proof of the newer complex Nikkor lens, so, I decided to try Sigma for a change. I will say the build quality of this consumer level lens is actually quite high. I would not call it a tank, but as tough of what I have seen out of Nikkor lately, I also got the USB adjuster, but so far, I have not used, because my copy seems to be sharp out of the box. I have noticed some focus issues for my D800 at the 600 point, if I pull back a hair, it snaps into focus, The focus is fast, but you have to be careful, it can get into a hunting mode, and once in that state, seems to have some issues settling down. but overall, it seems ot focus well, and I have gotten amazing shots already at the 500 to close to 600 range. I have been able to get hand held shots at the 150th of a second zoomed at 600, which is pretty amazing for such a large lens. It is large, I am able to walk about but, it is not as compact as my older Nikkor 80-400, but then again the newer Nikkor 80-400 is a huge beast too. People will definitely notice this lens. so,, I would recommend this lens for the best reach per dollar out there.

Llevo ya 10 meses con este lente y sigo pensando que es una de las mejores compras que he realizado. A un precio mucho menor que su contraparte de Nikon (200-500 f/5.6) es casi medio kilo más ligero, tiene 150mm más de longitud focal, más funciones, y una calidad óptica similar. Es compatible con Full Frame y APS-C (DX), tiene motor de enfoque integrado por lo que el autoenfoque es compatible con las cámaras más económicas de Nikon (series 3xxx y 5xxx), Optica: - Su nitidez es comparable con la del Nikon, ciertamente no es superior, pero aún así es excelente, sobretodo a cortas distancias (3-15m) y con diafragmas al rededor de f/8 y f/11 - El bokeh que produce es suave y muy agradable a la vista - Los 100 mm adicionales que tiene comparado con el Nikon son de gran ayuda, sobretodo en cámaras con sensor Full Frame donde 500mm aveces pueden sentirse un poco cortos - El recubrimiento de su elemento frontal es muy efectivo contra polvo y grasa, raramente se ensucia y se limpia muy fácilmente Funcionalidad - Este lente es pesado (casi 2kg) pero sigue siendo más ligero que el Nikon 200-500 por aprox. medio kilo lo cual en largas caminatas o excursiones se agradece. - El bloqueo del zoom en todas las posiciones marcadas es una gran función que tiene, puedes seleccionar tu longitud focal y bloquear ahí el zoom, evitando que se extienda cuando apuntas la cámara hacia abajo o se retraiga al estar apuntando hacia arriba. El Nikon solo ofrece el bloqueo en la longitud más corta. - Tiene 3 rangos de enfoque, Completo, 3-10m y 10m a infinito, otras marcas solo ofrecen full y 10m a infinito, y aunque no lo parezca poder bloquear en el rango corto es muy útil - Tiene 2 modos de estabilizador de imagen, para ambos ejes y solo movimientos verticales (para cuando se usa monopie, etc.) - Si tienes el dock de sigma puedes personalizar 2 funciones entre las que se incluyen la velocidad y precisión del autoenfoque y del estabilizador de imagen - Incluye una correa que puedes colocar en el pie del lente, yo recomiendo usarla para repartir el peso y evitar dañar la montura del lente o de la cámara Útil para: - Fotografías de fauna (aves, felinos, etc) - Deportes al aire libre (por su diafragma máximo de 5-6.3 es algo limitado para deportes en interiores o de noche) - Retratos - Fotografía de detalle - Fotografías de la luna Desventajas: - La apertura máxima es variable F/5 - F/6.3 por lo que la exposición puede cambiar al mover el zoom, se puede evitar esto utilizando siempre diafragmas de 6.3 o inferiores, yo recomiendo f/8 para una mayor nitidez - El zoom gira en el mismo sentido que los zooms de Canon, o sea en sentidos opuestos a los de Nikon y uno tarda en acostumbrarse - El pie del lente es algo pequeño y puede llegar a calar en la palma de la mano después de un rato

el teleobjetivo es de buena calidad, es robusto y las fotografías que se hacen con el, no tienen comparación, la unica pega que le pondré es que para llevarlo por el monte durante largo tiempo, se hace muy pesado y que el aro de goma que viene con el, yo no lo aconsejaría a nadie que lo use, ya que al hacerlo hay que presionar muy fuerte para poder ensamblarlo a la cámara y luego para quitarlo, sucede lo mismo, con lo que no creo que ese sea bueno para el cuerpo de la cámara que tiene que estar soportando la presión que se ejerce sobre el y creo que con su uso, podría dañar la cámara, pero por lo demás es que cuando ves los resultados en las fotografías, me siento muy satisfecho

Dopo alcuni mesi di utilizzo, soprattutto per foto ad avifauna, devo ritenermi soddisfatto. Il peso è sicuramente considerevole, nonostante ciò ho usato questo obiettivo principalmente a mano libera (tutte le foto allegate) con ottimi risultati. Di seguito i miei pro e contro di questo obiettivo. Non commenterò molto sulle prestazioni dell'AF in situazioni estreme, sia perché non sono un professionista, sia perché uso un corpo macchina non professionale, sia perché credo che per altissime prestazioni si debba pagare (purtroppo) molto di più. Sappiate che, per mia esperienza, in condizioni di luce e contrasto non ottimali l'autofocus può risentirne parecchio - ma in queste situazioni l'ultilissimo Manual Override mi ha comunque permesso di ottenere ottime foto. PRO: - Utilizzabile anche a mano libera grazie ad un'ottima riduzione vibrazioni. - Zoom lock, switch AF/MO/MF e switch per il range dello zoom comodi - Gamma di focali ampia, eccellente per fotografia di fauna - AF ben performante, regolabile e personalizzabile con l'apposito dock (purtroppo venduto a parte) - A lunghezze focali fino a 400 mm la qualità delle immagini è davvero eccellente - Funzione MO utilissima soprattutto a lunghezze focali più alte CONTRO: - Sopra i 400 mm ho riscontrato un lieve front/back focus (il mio corpo macchina attuale sicuramente non aiuta); inoltre, le immagini sono tendenzialmente morbide o mosse (ma considerando che molte foto le ho scattate a mano libera, vorrei ben credere) - Ovviamente a 600 mm le immagini tendono ad essere scure - La ghiera dello zoom non è molto morbida, inoltre per passare dalla minima lunghezza focale alla massima la si deve ruotare un bel po', perdendo un po' di tempo e talora lasciandosi sfuggire il soggetto. - Se non si imposta un range di AF, questo può essere un po' lento (possibile personalizzare l'AF con priorità al tempo di messa a fuoco col sopracitato dock) - Staffa per cavalletto molto scomoda da montare e forse un po' piccola Il voto reale che darei è 4,5/5 ed onestamente acquisterei di nuovo queste ottiche. Pour l'instant je suis satisfait de cet objectif. Monté sur un Nikon D500. Le pare-soleil est encombrant, je m'en passe parfois. Niveau design, ce n'est pas le plus beau, mais à ce prix ce n'est pas la priorité. Bon rapport/qualité prix.
