Well, fast forward two and a half years, I just realized that the board must be OILED!!! NOW it looks like the picture that sold me on the sale!! (see before and after pics below) I still just use it as a decoration, but it is very heavy and really dresses up a table!Before my discovery, I wrote:Although is is probably solid teak, the surface is not as dramatically colored as the picture. In fact, it is kind of a uniform light brown and the pattern LOOKS like it is printed on, although they say it is the actual end grain.The board IS heavy, but I cannot comment on how it stands up as a cutting board since I am only using it as a decoration.

This is a very nice piece of craftsmanship. Beautiful and functional. Upon arrival the surface was smooth as silk. I enjoyed just rubbing my hand across it.In its original state the board was a mottled combination of squares in light grays, blacks and browns. Upon oiling, which is periodically necessary on these, the color changed to rich earthtones, as depicted on the Amazon site for this product.The first photo shows the board right out of the box. The second shows the oiled board on my oak table, which I oiled at the same time. The color change of the board (and the table) is remarkable. These photos have not been doctored in any way.I've found Catskill's Butcher Block Oil to be very useful.

I replaced an old butcher block that split after many years of use. I have been seasoning this new one with mineral oil as recommended. It is really useful and so attractive. Very pleased with my purchase....it is quite heavy, but I like that.

The cutting board I received did not even remotely resemble the one I ordered. It was linear, monotone dark, and had a repeat geometrical pattern. I called Amazon, they provided return shipping and gave me credit on the order, but it was a huge waste of time. I ordered this for a Christmas gift with ample time to receive it for the holidays. By the time I got the wrong item, it was too late to order another one. Very disappointing. There was a refund but somehow it would have felt better if someone said I'll check into this or sorry that this happened. They said it was the last one....last one of what? cutting boards? It seemed their theory was, send what you have, maybe they'll keep it anyway.

This round laminated teak cutting board looked great at first, but a few weeksafter oiling the board it separated at 2 of the lamination joints. Used a tablesaw to salvage 2 smaller rectangular boards.

I got this cutting board as a gift in 2008. I was teaching cooking classes at the time, so needless to say, it got a lot of use. It lives on my kitchen island and gets used everyday. It has held up beautifully and looks as good as it did on day one! Go Proteak!
