One of the best books to have for digital painting.
It’s a little on the pricey side, but the author is very clear and concise on how he makes his paintings. That isn’t exactly common in a lot of digital painting tutorial books. The only thing I didn’t like is that he strictly uses an app called “Brushes.” He gives loose guidelines on how to recreate the brushes in other apps but for the most part leaves you on your own for figuring out how to recreate them (He does provide settings, but other apps don’t use the settings from Brushes). While not everybody can get them, I consider apps like Procreate, Photoshop, and Clip Studio to be vastly superior apps. That being said, the information here is very useful but if you can, buy it used.

Interesting
This is an interesting book. One thing it taught me immediately is that any art, digital or manual, takes a great deal of practice. But this book presents a good place to start. Since I'm such a novice at digital art, it's a good book for me.

Fun and relaxing
As a definite non-artist, I am having fun going through this book. The pictures and instructions are clear and simple to follow, except that I haven't quite figured out how to blend two colors as smoothly as Palmer does. And the suggested way of cleaning the palette in Brushes Redux simply doesn't work for me for some reason. But yeah, buy this book and you'll likely enjoy your first adventures into digital painting.

Good intro to digital painting
Good intro to digital painting. I have a tablet, not a apple like the author, but most of what he says is similar.. I also use a wacom table with Sketchbook and the author's step by step instructions are easy to follow and can be used with it too.

Excellent - go from novice to painter in 45 minutes!
Matthew has done a beautiful job with this book starting from the very beginning and taking us through all the watercolor painting basics like brush strokes, color density, layering, and blending. Now I have a blast doing 10 minute beauties that are the no-frustration creative outlet I've been looking for! I have the app Procreate on my 9" iPad Pro and my iPhone so I literally paint any time anywhere. Befor I bought this book I hadn't gotten the steps right so was very frustrating. Now I'm happy!

This is a book anyone can use to learn to paint in the digital arena.
This book is outstanding. It has several projects you can do on your phone, tablet, or computer, graduating from very simple, to moderately complex. Each step of the way you are guided by the author. Even someone with no artistic experience can follow these directions! Really, it's like having a painting instructor right by your side, as you learn. Well done!

Was a gift for an upcoming artist. She uses it and said it is helpful

Easy to follow for any app.
I love this book. Mr Palmer's teaching style is perfect for me. Although I am not using the same app as in the book, the instructions are still clear and work very well with my app - ArtStudio.I can now use the watercolor aspect with intention. Thank you. I hope he writes another digital painting book soon.

out of date
Artistically excellent but the digital content is out of date...needs updating with current software as that used is nolonger available.

Well laid out and clear explanations
I bought this as a present for my mother, but have been dipping into it myself. The author starts with discussion of the different apps and their pros and cons; shows with clear illustrations how to choose brushes in the apps and what they are suitable for; moves on to creating a palette and then works through a number of exercises. I like the direct, clear language. I've never been very good at art myself, but I'm tempted to buy another copy and have a go.

Too much background not enough tuition.
I'm a big Matthew Palmer fan but struggling to adapt the words to the packages on the pad. I've got 2 apps installed but no success so back to you Tube. It's a lovely book, well written but I think the book was written before the progress made in Apps. Still read through it and it was fine as a book but no so much as a 'how to' manual.

Great resource for Beginner Digital Painters
Really super service from this seller. The item arrived extremely quickly after I ordered it. The book itself is excellent and well recommended to anyone who has an interest in digital painting.

That's what I needed
Ok, not the book to teach to paint Mona Lisa - but a light, although very complete about using the ipad to paint. Baby steps, and a lot of examples to teach the techniques. So, at the end I just can take my iPad an go to a promenade at the grass...Very good.
